For many small business owners, LinkedIn is known primarily as a hiring platform.
The opportunity was to reposition LinkedIn as something much larger: a partner that helps businesses build their brand, grow their audience, attract customers, and find the right talent at every stage of growth. With one evening inside LinkedIn’s SF office we turned a product pitch into a real conversation, and gave founders, creators, and media a reason to put the platform to work. The event combined expert-led conversations, personalized guidance, interactive product experiences, and community-building opportunities into a single founder-focused destination
DESIGNED FOR CONNECTION
Guests entered through a branded Scale Up welcome experience before moving through a series of spaces designed to blend education, networking, and hands-on exploration.
Layered wood textures, architectural forms, bold LinkedIn colors, and integrated greenery transformed the office into an environment that felt less corporate and more community-driven.
As one of the key focal points of the experience, entrepreneurs engaged with a 65-inch interactive Data Wall, testing their knowledge against LinkedIn research through a five-question touchscreen quiz that revealed surprising insights into San Francisco’s small business landscape from the 153% increase in young founders since 2020 to the growing talent crunch and the role AI is playing in lowering barriers to entry for a new generation of businesses.
SCALING UP
At the center of the experience were four interactive Build Your Business stations, each focused on a different growth challenge facing today’s entrepreneurs:
- Build a Brand That Stands Out
- Accelerate Your Business Growth
- Make Your Content Shine
- Find Your Next Great Hire
Rather than traditional demos, attendees received one-on-one guidance from LinkedIn experts, transforming product education into personalized business consultation. Founders moved from “what does this do” to “here’s how I’d use it” in one conversation.
MAKING THE CONNECTION
The main stage transformed a typical conference room into a mainstage event through humanistic and the LinkedIn aesthetic design touches that carried a keynote from SF’s Linkedin business experts before the night opened into happy hour.
“Let’s Talk Shop” table cards sorted guests by industry to spark peer-to-peer conversation. And the small-business thesis carried all the way to the catering: rather than generic event F&B, we spotlighted local SF businesses as the vendors themselves. Hog Island Oyster Co. ran the raw bar, b. patisserie handled sweets, and our bar was entirely local, each with its own spotlight card and a QR code to follow the business on LinkedIn. The people LinkedIn was there to champion were on the menu, not just in the room.
In addition our monochrome-blue Headshot Studio delivered profile-ready LI portraits, and additional content capture moments tied throughout the space with photo moments that framed the SF skyline of this unmistakable city, built to share.
OUTCOMES
SF Scale Up proved LinkedIn can show up for over 150+ small business members with the same weight it brings to enterprise. Not by talking at founders, but by handing them the tools, the data, and the room to scale up on their own terms.
