Translation wanted to make a longform docu-style film that centered on Klay Thompson’s journey since his injury at the 2019 NBA Finals, in order to convey the close care and attention given during a recovery process. Floyd, a diehard Klay Thompson fanatic, catered the filmmaking approach to Klay’s psychological state through each phase and gathered a wealth of assets (interview sound bites, archival footage, family testimonials, etc.) in pre-production to later use in the edit.
Floyd had a clear three-act structure in mind going into the shoot: Act 1 - Shock (Days after the Injury), Act 2 - Recovery (in which Klay’s struggle is embraced), Act 3 - Return (faster and stronger than before). The film won three Clios and four Addys.
