Born in London, but having made Los Angeles his home for the last 20 years, James has directed numerous groundbreaking music videos with artists such as Radiohead, Alabama Shakes, OK Go, Interpol, Pearl Jam, Beastie Boys, and The White Stripes, to name just a few. His most referenced video and still sought-after technique is his shot-in-one-take OK Go video “This Too Shall Pass.” His best known works include videos for Coldplay’s “Yellow”, Norah Jones’ “Come Away With Me”, and Radiohead’s “House of Cards,” which continues to be exhibited in contemporary art museums around the world.
James has directed commercials for some of the most prestigious brands in the world, including Nike, Mercedes Benz, IBM, BMW, American Express, Ford, Verizon, and AT&T, among others. James worked with Australian group Rüfüs Du Sol to conceptualize the story and visual look for Coachella’s Antarctic Dome, an immersive music experience at Coachella in a massive 11,000-square-foot geodesic dome.
He also directed the music video for their track “Alive” purely in Unreal Engine. His honors include D&AD, Art Directors Club, ONE Show, AICP Award, Webby Award, LA Film Festival, New York Festivals, London International Advertising Awards, Addy Awards, and Nominations for Grammy®, MTV VMA, Billboard Award, BRIT Award, MVPAs, British Design Award & Shortlists at Cannes.
